What Is A Printing Bleed?

Printing bleeds are portions of the image extending beyond the final cut-line. They are necessary to compensate for image drift and cut tolerances during the print production process. In a practical sense, your project is printed 1/8 inch oversize and then trimmed back to the finished size.

In this sample we see the background is extended 1/8th inch outside the cutline and the text is set 1/8th inch inside the cutline. This is a typical printing bleed allowance.

We use 1/8th inch bleeds for most of our production work.
